Congratulations to Shelley Joslin, Director of Counseling, for receiving the Golden Shovel! The recipient of the Golden Shovel exemplifies the core values of our school, but a wide variety of related values come into play: hard work, perseverance, loyalty, and teamwork all are deeply held values of our faculty.
Passing on the Golden Shovel - Congratulations, Shelley!
At the schoolwide assembly on Tuesday, December 2, Tom Hopper passed on the Golden Shovel to Shelley Joslin, Director of Counseling. Here's an explanation from Dr. Stuart Grauer about the The Grauer School's "Golden Shovel" Award: "In 2000, when we embarked upon construction of our Great Hall Building, our board members lined up with shovels to turn the first earth. We shoveled in dirt and pebbles from many countries all over the world, forever a part of the school foundation! At the conclusion of the ceremony, board member Mike Branon donated his shovel to our faculty. Since then, several times a year, the staff nominates one person to receive 'The Golden Shovel'. The recipient of the Golden Shovel exemplifies the core values of our school, but a wide variety of related values come into play: hard work, perseverance, loyalty, and teamwork all are deeply held values of our faculty."
In nominating Shelley for the Golden Shovel, Tom said, "This loving, patient, and hilarious individual brings a bright light to everyone's life. They champion all of their students by helping them find their confidence and tools to navigate friendships and life in general. They listen with their whole heart, they speak with honesty, and they always make you feel like your voice matters. They are an inspiring expedition lead, planning fun trips that often involve college visits and connecting with Grauer alumni. They effortlessly bring sincerity, fun, and an open mind into every moment. SHE is someone we all turn to for advice, and she dedicates countless hours to making the college application process as tailored and stress-free as possible, and also coordinates our ASB events. And if you haven't guessed...she also loves the Padres and the color pink. So, congratulations to...Shelley! "
