Japanese Students Visit The Grauer School
From Yumi Miyamoto and Jessi Brown, World Languages Teachers:
A group of Japanese students from Doshisha Kori High School in Japan visited The Grauer School on March 29. The 25 students from Japan had come to San Diego to attend English language classes at San Diego State University. Toward the end of their 10-day stay, they came to spend a day with us. First, they were given a tour of the campus, and met the members of the “Japanese Pen Pal+ Club” and other Grauer ambassadors. The Japanese students then shadowed Grauer students during their 3rd period classes. After lunch, the Japanese students and their hosts enjoyed a (very rainy) scavenger hunt where they had to learn greetings in each language that the school offers. During 7th period, we hosted a World Language Fair in Meyer Hall where everyone enjoyed playing games and singing karaoke together, and eating genuine Mexican pastries, quesadillas, and chips, French crepes, Chinese dumplings, and Japanese rice balls. We also did arts and crafts, making Day of the Dead marigolds, origami, and paper hands that said “I love you" in American Sign Language. The Japanese students were all fascinated with Grauer’s educational culture, and they expressed a desire to return someday. Our Grauer students loved the experience as well and many vowed to stay in touch. The travel agents accompanying the Japanese students were genuinely impressed with the Grauer way of education and look forward to another opportunity to bring Japanese high school students to our campus.

Magnificence: Is it a moment, an achievement, a natural phenomenon, an interaction? The relationship between magnificence and high school education can be seen from various lenses: integrating the natural world, inspirational learning and teaching, and emerging human potential.
Pre-Calculus classes went on a field trip to the beach to write trigonometric equations from data observed and collected from breaking waves. The student teams then checked their data through a surf report app. This was a great example of project-based learning through a fun math project!
Grauer Seniors Karina A. '24 and Emerson M. '24, ASB Co-Presidents, were recognized at the "Laurels for Leaders" Awards Ceremony, which honors and recognizes San Diego County Associated Student Body (ASB) Presidents for their dedication and commitment to leadership and service in our community.
