Health Class Final: Crafting Thoughtfully-Sourced Dishes
From Trevor Olson, Grauer Athletic Director and Health Teacher:
After wrapping up their Nutrition unit in Health class, Grauer 9th Grade students teamed up to transform their knowledge into action by crafting delicious and thoughtfully-sourced dishes. The student teams planned their menu, went shopping to purchase their ingredients at the grocery store, and cooked their meals with creativity and collaboration, ultimately presenting their culinary creations to an eager panel of judges ready to savor their efforts! The comments from the judges are below.
~ "Once again, Coach Trevor's health class students showed great teamwork. I was impressed with their focus on advanced nutrition topics such as macronutrients, flavonoids, antioxidants, and probiotics, as well as their commitment to using organic ingredients. And the food was delicious! It’s remarkable to see our students, parents, and teachers turning 'farm to table' into 'school garden to harvest kitchen.' I love this annual event and cannot say enough about how valuable this learning experience is not just for students' minds and bodies, but for the health of our soil and land …and future. This initiative reflects our school’s long dedication to sustainability, hands-on learning, and the shared values of our community. Thank you to Trevor and the Health class students!" - Dr. Stuart Grauer
~ "Overall I was very impressed with the teamwork displayed during the cook-off. The plates presented were both delicious and nutritious and the students' knowledge of where their food ingredients came from was very impressive." - Shelley Joslin
~ "The food tasted and looked amazing! Good teamwork and presentations. Job well done!" - Simon Checa
