Grauer Visual Arts Students Visit Tribal Art Collection

Grauer Visual Arts Students Visit Tribal Art Collection

On Tuesday, March 3, Grauer Visual Arts students joined Visual Arts teacher Johnny King and chaperones Bill Harman, Alicia Tembi, and Jamie Burnett, in a special annual visit to the tribal/ethnic art collection of Bill and Michelle Lerach in La Jolla. The visit included lunch hosted by the Lerachs, as well as a lecture and tour which focused on the origins of modern art and the connection to tribal art, which resulted in cubism and other modern art forms. The students loved the visit and were amazed by the extensive African art collection. They learned a lot about the origins of African art and the influence it had on Picasso and other artists. It's not every day that students are allowed to get close to ancient art, and being able to hold some of the art pieces is an experience they won't forget! At the end of their visit, the Visual Arts students presented the Lerachs with Grauer Arts t-shirts to thank them for sharing this valuable community resource with our school again this year.
