Grauer Student Volunteers At Tournament of Roses Parade
Grauer Junior Mikayla B. '27 volunteered at The Phoenix Decorating Company in Irwindale to decorate floats for the Tournament of Roses Parade that took place on New Year's Day in Pasadena, with this year's theme of "The Magic in Teamwork." Mikayla has been working on floats for a number of years with her grandmother and other members of her family. She was excited to work on many of the impressive floats that ran in the parade this year. She described her experience on each of the different floats, saying "For The Rotary Float, I worked on all of the pink flowers around the float. Then I did 30 arrangements for The Elks float. I did all of the roses in the tree for the Elks, which was on the camera side. For The City of Hope, I did all of the Koi fish, which involved individually placing each bean/lentil down one by one. For The Santa Fe Springs float, I did half of the mural, including the train, which took about four days. For The Trader Joe’s float, I helped with floral arrangements, especially with the vegetables in the gravy pot at the back of the float. Another float I worked on was for the Shriners. I decorated the squirrel and the porcupine that are on the seesaw on the side of the float. I worked on a few other floats as well, but those are the main things that I did. I was up on scaffolding most of the week!"

Teachers are in a tougher spot right now than many of us realize. They are asked to guide young people through a world that can feel louder, more divided, and at times openly hostile …while also being expected to remain professionally “neutral.” That balancing act can be exhausting, and often invisible to families looking in from the outside.
Grauer students participated in our annual Tolerance Day focused on “How to Cultivate an Inclusive Community Through Self Compassion and Self Love.” The purpose of the workshop was to: encourage acceptance, appreciation and understanding of forms of expression and ways of being human through education and dialogue.
Grauer's Shockwave #3848 Robotics Team competed in the league championships on February 7, squaring off against 21 other teams from around San Diego. Due to the combination of their success with robot play and winning the "Think" award, the team will be moving on to the San Diego Regionals on March 7.
The High School Theatre Arts Department presented "Romeo & Juliet" on January 29-31. Shakespeare’s timeless story of love, conflict, and hope continues to resonate because it speaks to the urgency of youth, the intensity of emotion, and the consequences of division.
If “endowment” makes you want to check your email, stay with us. Yale just made college free for most families, and it makes us all ask what we are doing here?
