Grauer Student Is A National Merit Semifinalist

Congratulations to Sophie S. ’20 for being selected as a National Merit Semifinalist!

Every October, The Grauer School’s juniors join 11th graders from all over the United States in taking the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) on our campus.  Of the 1.6 million entrants in the National Merit Scholarship competition, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores (calculated by doubling the sum of the Reading, Writing and Language, and Math test scores) qualify for recognition into the National Merit Scholarship Program. In early September of the following year, about 16,000 students (the top 1%) are notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists and advance to the scholarship- awarding round. To ensure that academically talented young people from all parts o the United States are included in the talent pool, Semifinalists are designated on a state-representational basis—they are the highest scoring entrants in each state. The Grauer School is proud to have Sophie representing us in this year’s competition and pleased to acknowledge her selection for this prestigious honor.
