Students in Clayton Payne's Pre-Calculus classes got to work on their problem-solving skills as they were tasked with calculating the component form, magnitude, and unit vector of the three-dimensional vector created by throwing a frisbee. "You give a student a graph or a set of coordinates," states Clayton, "and they have an instinct as to what math to do. Handing them a frisbee with vague instructions on applying the math they've learned forces them to evaluate their knowledge and synthesize meaning in a very practical setting. Besides, it's way more fun!"
