Grauer Physical Education Class: Swordplay
Grauer's Physical Education teachers, Trevor Olson, Brendan Wallace, and Paulina Davis-Fisher, use many creative activities to make their PE classes lots of fun as well as exercise for their students. On Monday, December 9, Trevor and Brendan invited Liam Murphy, Grauer's Technology Administrator, to work with the High School PE class to teach them the basic moves of Swordplay. Liam has many years of experience with swordplay and martial arts, and he was excited to share his expertise with the students. The class used "boffers", which are soft sword-shaped equipment made of PVC pipe wrapped with padding and tape, so that it was safe for everyone to participate. Liam taught the students the different sword positions, the moves of parrying and blocking, and the "chivalrous contact" that makes the sport safe and fun. Trevor remarked that the swordplay was a great workout with a lot more physical activity than he expected. All of the students had a great time with this new PE activity!
