Grauer Parent Association Homegrown Speaker Series Concludes

Grauer Parent Association Homegrown Speaker Series Concludes

The Grauer Parent Association hosted three events during their "Homegrown Speaker Series" for Grauer parents last week. The first event was a "Creativity & Belonging" writing workshop on Monday, March 22, led by former Grauer English Teacher, Christina Burress. Parents met at the San Dieguito River Park open air classroom and enjoyed a meditation, shared poems and participated in a wonderful nature writing exercise. They learned that when we connect with the natural world, we open up to a deeper relationship with all that is alive, and connect more to ourselves. On Wednesday, March 23, parents joined our very own Mandarin Chinese teacher, Fupen Huang, to learn how to make traditional Chinese dumplings in the Grauer kitchen. It was a wonderful way to learn and create, not to mention, enjoy the delicious food together.

The final event was the Sound Bath activity with our Yoga teacher, Cearra Correa, on Friday, March 25. The participants enjoyed a 1-hour, meditative experience, where Cearra used singing bowls, her voice, and other instruments to balance and unblock the body's energy centres, known as the chakras.

The Homegrown series was an absolute success! The Grauer parents who attended all three of the Homegrown events had so much fun being together and learning from our own teachers. The workshops gave the parents an opportunity to learn from experts within our own Grauer community, including some of the wonderful activities that our students get to experience like making dumplings with Fupen and having a Sound Bath in Yoga PE class with Cearra. Thanks to all of our speakers, and special thanks to the Grauer Parent Association for coordinating all of these events for our parents!
