Grauer High School Teams Compete At 2026 San Diego Science Olympiad

Grauer High School Teams Compete At 2026 San Diego Science Olympiad

The Grauer School had two High School teams competing at the San Diego Science Olympiad (SDSO) competition at the University of San Diego on February 28. It’s a huge accomplishment for students to place in the top 30 of any events, so it was very exciting that many of our students on both teams were able to accomplish that.

Grauer High School Teams Compete At 2026 San Diego Science Olympiad

From Peggy Gardner, Paulina Davis-Fisher, and Ryan Stevens, Science Olympiad Team Coaches:

The Grauer School had two High School teams, with a total of 26 students, competing at the San Diego Science Olympiad (SDSO) competition at the University of San Diego on Saturday, February 28. There were 62 teams competing from all over the San Diego region. Our teams competed in a variety of events across the STEAM spectrum, including traditional laboratory science events; events testing general knowledge in different science topics; using historical and modern cryptanalysis techniques to decode encrypted messages; building machines that were tested during the event; and much more.

We were very excited to have an extremely competitive team this year, the Orange Gorillas, that competed in 22 of the 23 events at the competition, due to some of the students on the team taking the initiative to sign up to compete in 3-4 events each. Our Orange Gorillas team was #31 out of the 62 teams competing,  which means we placed above many teams from much larger high schools! Our Green Gorillas team was #55, and it was composed of mainly younger students who were trying out Science Olympiad for the first time. It’s a huge accomplishment for students to place in the top 30 of any events, so it was very exciting that many of our students on both teams were able to accomplish that.

Congratulations to all of our students who represented The Grauer School at the San Diego Science Olympiad this year! We are so proud of our Seniors who have all been competing for several years and brought their enthusiasm again this year. We were also excited for our 9th-11th Grade students to participate, many for their first time, and this was a great experience for the new team members to try the events so they know what the competition is like. It was fun to be on campus with all of the other schools and students, with such excitement in the air over the many different scientific fields that were represented in the events. Go, Science!
