Grauer Engineering Design Class Projects
From Ryan Stevens, Engineering Design Teacher: During the first semester of Engineering Design classes, students learned basic engineering and physics principles, as well as some elements of the design process. They also learned how to use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, specifically Fusion 360. For their final projects at the end of the first semester, they had to design and build a prototype of a small device that could accomplish a simple task. Some examples of their projects include: Gavin N. '26 and Mac R. '24 each designed a hand-cranked machine that would hit a key on a keyboard as fast as possible; Augie K. '26 designed a device to perfectly trace out a circle with a pencil; Colin E. '24 created a rendered model of a turbocharger engine; and Zaid K. '25 created a water gun.

One of the founding principles of The Grauer School is the importance of expeditionary learning, where our students learn important lessons from the natural world. More parents and educators who are now recognizing the value of outdoor education and the essential intelligence it imparts upon our children.
This week's column features guest columnist Trevor Olson, High School Dean at The Grauer School. Trevor shares the wisdom he learned from Jim, a 79-year-old father and grandfather, about the importance of acknowledgment and respect for others.
7th Grade Life Science students have learned about how photosynthesis and respiration work together to balance the amount of CO2 and O2 in the atmosphere. The class built miniature biospheres in class, using large jars with lids as the biosphere containers.
The Grauer Girl Rising Club hosted a 12-hour Dance Marathon to raise money towards funding tuition at Daraja Academy. Over 40 students attended the Dance Marathon which raised more than $1,000, so Girl Rising reached their goal to fund one girl's tuition to Daraja!
On January 24, The Grauer School had a special assembly to celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Rabbit. This annual assembly is always an entertaining opportunity for Grauer students to learn more about Asian cultures.
