Grauer Lunar New Year Assembly: Year of the Snake
From Paul-Michael Ogburn, Global Insights Teacher:
On January 28, The Grauer School had a special assembly to celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Snake, celebrating a time of new beginnings and fresh opportunities. The event began with an introduction about the Asian Lunar New Year by emcee and event organizer Paul-Michael Ogburn, Global Insights teacher. Grauer students performed a Lion Dance, meant to symbolize scaring away evil and welcoming prosperity, joy, and good fortune for the year ahead. Jerry J. '27 performed a classical Chinese song on his saxophone. Mandarin Chinese teacher, Fupen Huang, introduced her Mandarin Chinese students, who performed a fun dance to share their joy and energy. Finally, Mimi Robinson, who is a practitioner of Choy Li Fut Gong Fu, gave a stunning display of martial arts as she performed the Zhan Ma Dao with a replica of a traditional Chinese weapon.
This annual assembly is always an entertaining opportunity for Grauer students to learn more about Asian cultures and honor the diversity that our international students and faculty bring to our school community.

One of the highlights of the Poland Unveiled expedition was our unforgettable visits to monuments remembering the atrocities of the Holocaust and the resilience of the Polish people, which brought to life our World History curriculum on World War II. Our visits to each of these places were emotional, meaningful, and deeply important for our students.
The Grauer School balances college preparation with Expeditionary Learning, where we cancel classes 2 weeks each year in order to engage our students in humanitarian and ecological service. During Spring Expeditions week 2025, all of our students traveled in California and around the world.
