Economics Class: Senior Business Plan Presentations

Economics Class: Senior Business Plan Presentations

From Jessi Brown and Frida LeBreton, Economics Teachers:

Economics class introduces students to the fundamentals of microeconomics and macroeconomics. We also explore entrepreneurship by helping students develop comprehensive business proposals. At the beginning of third quarter, seniors researched different business ideas ignited by a simple hobby, a passion, social entrepreneurship programs, a career, or a family business succession path. Then, they formed partnerships or remained solo and developed for-profit or non-for-profit businesses.

The objective of this project is to teach students how to articulate a basic business vision into a formal plan that includes the following parts: Executive Summary; Mission Statement; Vision; Business Description; Products and Services; and Marketing plan. Finally, students had to pitch and defend their proposal in front of a formal panel of volunteers made up of parents on April 30.

This year's senior businesses include: Ezri & Kaia: Spice Girls (culinary spice mixes);  Zaid: Zaytouna. (olive oil imports); André: Easum Bikes (Bike Refurbishing); Noé & Brahm: Herbaboizz (fresh culinary herbs); Brandon, Milan & Anthony: Macro 9 (mini keyboard extension); Erin & Samara: Silverwares (custom-designed, upcycled metal jewelry & trinkets); and Maya & Ennis: Sunrise Hot Sauces (hot sauce, 1/2 of profits going to charity).
