11th Grade Students Host Author's Chair

11th Grade Students Host Author's Chair

From Alicia Tembi, History Teacher:

The 11th graders in US History class hosted an Author's Chair event, to share excerpts from the World War II research papers they wrote on topics of their choice. An "Author's Chair" is the final step in the writing process, when writers share their final products with an audience. This event included lots of delicious breakfast items brought in by the students to share with their classmates.

The World War II projects spanned six weeks and included a trip to the Dove Library in Carlsbad to check out books and find primary sources. Students wrote about topics including the Office of Strategic Services, Japanese American Internment, the Battle of the Bulge and women's roles during World War II. They worked extremely hard to craft evidence-based, thorough research papers. Their efforts paid off as the final products were well-written, organized and insightful.
