Café Night: CD Release Party – Thursday, February 23rd at 6:00PM (Great Hall)

Our Grauer School Record Label has been hard at work writing, producing, recording, and creating our first CD of this year. Thanks to the incredible work of Isaac Langen, Sean Conway, and Karen Waller, our Grauer Record Label CD is ready to be launched this Thursday, February 23 at 6:00pm. Please attend our Café Night to hear these songs performed live and to purchase a copy of this year’s CD—if you miss the event, you may still purchase a CD through our Music Department.

Welcome, Lars!

Lars Golden Goodson was born to proud parents Art Teacher Christy Goodson and Nate Goodson on Thursday, February 9. Although he entered the world three-weeks early, Lars was a very healthy 6 pounds, 10-ounces and measured 19-inches. Congratulations to Christy and Nate on their healthy little Viking boy! We’ll see him in our Grauer Class of 2030.

Headmaster’s Journal

Resting Comfortably on the Tight Wire
Restaurants. Grocery stores. Airports. It seems like wherever I go people are eager to talk about education. I suppose this could get old for some people but, true confessions, I like it. It is surely easier being in my own realm than being out in the periphery where I am less connected. It also enables me to hear a wide array of viewpoints. Of course, I need a balance of both realms to keep growing.”  Click to Read More on our Blog

Principal’s Desk

According to the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science, intellectual curiosity is a strong predictor of future academic performance. The conclusion was based on a meta-analysis of 200 previous studies of students who rated their own intellectual curiosity, among other factors. Intellectual curiosity has as large an effect on academic performance as conscientiousness, through not as much as intelligence, the article says…  Click to Read More on our Blog

Dean’s Note

We wish to sincerely thank all of you who joined us for our second set of student-led parent-teacher conferences this year. Getting to speak with you regarding our relationship driven education while the students demonstrate both self-advocacy and collaborative leadership is certainly a small school advantage that we are all grateful for, but what’s the next step?

Welcome, Rachel!

The Grauer School is proud to welcome Rachel Sussmann, our new long-term Art substitute. Rachel began filling in for Christy during her maternity leave starting last week. Rachel is a native New Yorker and graduated from SUNY with a BS in Visual Arts; her major was Studio Art: Graphic Design and her Minor was Art History. She went on to earn her MS in Fine Arts Education from Hofstra University, graduating with Honors. She is a talented photographer and graphic designer and has worked as an Art Instructor at the San Diego Museum of Art as well as has done a great deal of substitute teaching at both The Children’s School and Pacific Ridge (both of which sent her excellent recommendations). Rachel is energetic, loves working with teenagers, and is extremely excited to be part of our talented Grauer faculty. Please welcome her when you see her on campus.

Congratulations, Jessi!

Congratulations to teacher Jessi Young for being awarded the Outstanding Service to Youth Award by the YMCA. In addition to teaching Spanish, History, and being our Community Service Head, Jessi is the Youth and Government Adviser for the Magdalena Ecke YMCA. This weekend, Jessi led students from her delegation (and The Grauer School) to Sacramento, where they “overtook” the State Capitol. Congratulations, Jessi!
